Logging the technical stuff

I started the pen name Jamie Klaire September 2013, the first shorts debuted 9/12/13. This post covers the first six weeks- units sold, titles out, aprox cash made- in my first six weeks. Boring post, more for prosperity’s sake. I wish I knew other author’s starting story so I’m writing mine. Better blog posts to come, I promise.

By Title:

Shared On My Husband’s Birthday– sold 10 in September, 4 in October- 14 total

Massaged And Shaved By My Step Brother, AKA Shaved And Massaged By My Neighbor, depending on retailer. Both editions together- sold 13 in September, 5 in October- 18 total

Dirty Little Secrets (Compilation of 6 stories on Amazon, and 3 ‘family secrets’ stories elsewhere) together- sold 2 in September, 3 in October- 5 total

Hot For Teacher (This title was down most of October for a rewrite- I wasn’t happy with it. Originally my only 99 cent story, I rewrote and lengthened it, re-releasing it Oct 31 for 2.99)- sold 5 in September, 1 in October- 6 total

My First Menage– sold 4 in September, 1 in October- 5 total

Please Officer, I’ll Do Anything (Both original and Step Brother Versions)- sold 5 in September, 6 in October- 11 total

Spying On My Sister (AKA Spying On My Neighbor, depending on retailer)- sold 4 in September, 2 in October- 6 total. (Note, I released this title as a freebie on Smashwords October 26, with a bonus preview of Shared On My Husband’s Birthday included. Hopefully it will eventually be free everywhere, allowing a free sample of my work. We shall see if that helps sell the other titles. So far on Smashwords it has been free downloaded 229 times.)

Seduced At The Marine Masquerade Ball (AKA Deflowered At The Marine Masquerade Ball -I guess Amazon has issues with the word ‘Deflowered’, and also available at some retailers as Deflowered By My Step Brother At The Marine Masquerade Ball)- this title was released in October, so no sales in September- sold 8 in October- 8 total.

My plan was to release a handful initially and to add 2 short stories a month. I released 6 titles in Sept, but took one down for rewrite. October’s two titles were one original, and the rewrite. As of the end of October I have 7 titles up (some titles are available in two editions, and I did release a collection, but in reality I consider them 7 original shorts.)

Total Titles Sold Sept/Oct- 73 titles. My first goal is 100 titles sold, goal not yet met.

Aprox Cash Made In First Six Weeks- $86.51 September, $61.83 October= $148.34 total

A far cry from Selena Kitt’s aprox $500,000 a year, but even she had to start somewhere. And since I don’t consider my first ‘starter stories’ anywhere near her skills as a storyteller, I’d be happy eventually just to quit my day job and maybe end up with a tenth of her yearly income. $50,000 a year for telling erotic short stories purely for fun? Oh yeah, count me in. But, I’m at the very beginning, so we shall see.

Quick note- October sales seem to run one sale per day- writing this on Oct 31, I show 30 sales. (In the interest of full disclosure, October also logged 9 units refunded. I think someone downloaded, read, and then returned 6 of my titles, just from the way they seemed to happen, but that leaves 3 others. 3 seems more like a valid ‘oops I one-click ordered’ number. Either that or I really suck. Need more months, titles and sales under my belt to determine. Septembers refund number was more like 2, out of 43 sales. 2 out of 45 seems way more normal than 9 out of 39. I guess only time will tell.

Blog Virgin

I’m a classy, prim and proper married mother on the outside, and on the inside (and in my younger years) I’m kicked back in tight jeans and a cinched corset, playing poker with one hand and sipping whiskey with the other. A mouth only a sailor would love, a two-step that just won’t quit and a raunchy imagination to top it all off.

I spent many a dark night ‘entertaining myself’ with my own fantasies before I was old enough to know that the good feeling had a name- orgasm, so my vivid imagination came hard and early. Who knew back then that my dark fantasies could be written down and shared with others?

I have discovered the new frontier of writing erotic short stories and selling the ebooks online, and this blog is my attempt to keep my thoughts in order and to log my progress. I plan on being very honest for two reasons: One, that’s just how I roll. Why do this and not be honest about it? My hopes, dreams and sales numbers will be legit, even if my pen name Jamie Klaire is made up. I do have a family to think about. And two, I want to look back on this later as a time capsule of my career- from humble beginnings to multi millionaire. Or to at least hopefully a not-quite-so-starving-artist who will one day be able to quit her day job and write full time. Either way, honesty is the best policy. I’ve often wondered how writers got their starts, this will at least cover mine.

I hope to publish at least two short stories a month to Amazon, Smashwords and Nook. I have a small handful up there now. At the end of the month I will publish on here how many titles are up and how many copies have sold so I can keep track from the very beginning. I’m sure I’ll also announce new releases and my thoughts as I write more stories, but for now this will do as a first blog post. Heading off to see if I can attach this blog to my Amazon Author Page.

Hopefully I’ll pick up a few curious followers along my journey.

Thanks for reading,

Jamie
